The
Lost Heir
Story: Andrea Iovinelli
Art: Walter Rota
THE
STORY
The story takes place in an everyday alternative reality. Rashid
Le Beu, was the very first human being on Earth to be able to
demonstrate his amazing parapsychological skills. After a deep research
work on his brain, the whole human race was finally able to discover
and to exploit the unlimited power of the mind, almost to the utmost
of its potential (or so it's thought to be). This revolutionary
scientific achievement, however, had very important social effects
which led, day by day, to two different opposing concepts, two distinct
philosophies of life, to the splitting into two factions or "ideological
races":
- the luminants, who aimed to refine their intellectual
ability through pharmaceutical therapies, developed by the "Le
Beu" case;
- and a minority, already ostracized and slurred (offensively called
obscurants), that was against this way of living,
considering it an outrageous act against nature and therefore ethically
unacceptable especially since nobody knew where it could lead to.
After some years of mass illusion, however, all the
enhancement which was brought about through pharmaceutical products,
starting from the specific therapies studied by the luminants
(improvements which, among other things, were propagandistically
overstated) turned out to be all but miraculous, they were only
transitory and rather fleeing. The really "elected" were
indeed the ones that were able to demonstrate consistent and supernatural
mind ability with continuity and with no therapy whatsoever. These
people were called the naturally illuminated.
VOLUME
ONE
Everywhere in the world, there have always been people appearing
and disappearing into thin air without ever knowing where they have
come from or where they have gone.
Daniela is one
of them but nobody knows. The only thing we know about her, is that
she was found in the middle of the countryside when she was just
a few months old, and that after some time she was adopted by the
people that had found her.
Years pass by and Daniela grows up like any other
normal child, but once at school, her teachers find out that her
intelligence is out of normal. Analysis reveal that she's one of
the rare naturally illuminated just like Le Beu, but even
though her parents try to hide this truth, the fact is too obvious.
As a matter of fact, Daniela's parents are fierce supporters of
the obscurants ideology, they are more than convinced of
this, so they decide the same destiny for their daughter too. Daniela,
however, doesn't like being "special", since this is causing
her to be constantly refused and ragged by her classmates. So while
the scientific community and the whole world is wondering whether
or not to keep on doing further researches on the illuminated,
Daniela is discovering the amazing and surprising abilities she
possesses her notwithstanding.
All the extraordinary gifts of Daniela disclose definitively
when some criminals break into the house and...
THE
CHARACTERS
Daniela (alias Julia Regis): she's a tough girl, resolute,
always eagerly searching for the truth on her past. Weak and emotionally
unstable, because of her troublesome and stormy past, she finds
an unbelievable strength just in the most extreme situations. She's
very unsure and finds it difficult to have relations with other
people. She has only few and difficult friendships, because she
feels obliges to keep most part of her life a secret. Her sporadic
love stories which she has always intentionally refused to develop
and carry on are even worse.
Kersin (alias Trevis Knight): he's Daniela's secret
personal guard, her "guardian angel". A man of good disposition,
generous, unselfish, incredibly brave and very skillful in the art
of fighting. He was the trusted right arm and brotherly friend of
Daniela's father, to whom he has sworn to protect her at his own
life's cost. He loves Daniela and often sees in her all the same
qualities of her father in fact, in a way, he considers himself
to be her godfather.
